Fans Awestruck by Soccer Tricks

May 15, 2007 by sachinskg

One of the reasons soccer is so popular is the variety of tricks the best players can perform with just a ball at their feet. The complexity of soccer tricks has increased as players get fitter, faster and more dexterous.

However, some of the best tricks are still the old ones. For example, no true soccer fan would get tired of seeing a player score a goal from an overhead kick, or bicycle kick, as some people call it.

If anything, soccer tricks are moving away from the playing fields to a form of entertainment on its own. Modern soccer is very much strategy-based with players being instructed by coaches to be straightforward in their approach to the game.

Juggling the ball with your feet, shoulders, head and even back of the neck are rarely, if ever, performed in game situations. They are normally reserved for the practice field or when entertaining kids and spectators.

That is why the more popular players are the ones who dare to perform tricks while playing. Brazilian players such as Ronaldo and Ronaldinho are famous exponents of soccer tricks, as well as former French captain Zinedine Zidane.

Fans would pay the entrance fee just to watch these players alone without caring about the result of the match or who wins.

Some of the great players of the past are known for their wizardry on the ball. Brazil’s Pele, Argentina’s Diego Maradona, Northern Irishman George Best and Dutch master Johan Cruyff are among the most famous of past stars for their repertoire of soccer tricks.

If you want to see some of the best performers of soccer tricks in modern times, go to a kids soccer game. Children are not limited by tactics and strategy. They want to have fun, which means they are happy to use trickery against each other when they play.
